Variations: While Seagram's is
the traditional liquor for this popular drink, any blended whiskey can be

Shirley Temple

Who doesn't remember how adult they felt when their parents allowed them
to order this cocktail for the first time?
Pour the grenadine into an ice-filled collins or rocks glass, top off
with ginger ale and garnish with the cherry before serving.
Variations: Substitute cola for
the ginger ale to pour a Roy Rogers.
7-Up works well, too.
Sidecar
1 1/2 oz. Brandy
3/4 oz. Triple Sec
3/4 oz. Sour Mix
Shake or blend with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
Variations: Loosely defined, a
Sidecar is any drink that combines liquor and liqueur in a 2-to-1 ratio, with a
splash of sour mix thrown in for good measure.
Recognized variations include substituting bourbon, gin, scotch or
applejack for the brandy to pour a Bourbon, Gin, Scotch or Apple Sidecar.
Singapore Sling

Stick the lemon and cherry together with a toothpick. Then shake the gin, brandy, and sour mix
together, and strain into an ice-filled collins glass. Fill with club soda, top with the Cointreau,
and garnish with the fruit to serve.
Tips: No cherry brandy on
hand? Substitute 1 oz. of sloe gin or
1/2 oz. of grenadine instead. Some
bartenders also prefer to use sour mix instead of lemon juice.
Trivia: The Singapore Sling was
invented at the famous Writer's Bar at the Raffles Hotel in Singapore. Joseph Conrd and Rudyard Kipling were among
the many famous colonial-period authors who downed a drink or two there under
the breeze of a slowly-turning ceiling fan.

Snowflake

Fill a wineglass with crushed ice, then pour in the liquors. Stir until chilled and serve.
Sombrero

1 oz. Half & Half
Fill an old-fashioned glass with ice cubes, pour in the liqueur, and
give it a couple of stirs. Float the cream
on top of the liqueur by pouring it slowly over the back of a spoon that's held
with its tip just touching the drink's surface.
Soul Kiss
1 oz. Whiskey
1 oz. Dry Vermouth
1/2 oz. Dubonnet
1/2 oz. Orange Juice
Pour into an ice-filled mixing glass and stir well. Strain into an ice-filled rocks glass, and
serve.
Tips: Top off with an orange
twist or slice, for added appeal.

Variations: Simply substitute
vodka for brandy to create the Vodka Stinger variation of this classic
cocktail.
Tips: Garnish your drink with a
sprig of fresh mint, as we have, for extra panache.
Sunburst
1 1/2 oz. Vodka
1/4 oz. Triple Sec
3 oz. Grapefruit Juice
Pour the vodka and grapefruit juice into an ice-filled rocks glass. Top off with the triple sec, and serve.
Swampwater
1 1/2 oz Dark Rum
1/4 oz. Blue Curacao
1 1/2 oz. Orange Juice
1/2 oz. Lemon Juice
Shake or blend with ice, and strain into an ice-filled rocks glass.
Tips: If you're lookinf for a
"conversation cocktail", this may be your ticket: As disgusting as a Swampwater looks, it
tastes darn good! In a pinch, regular
Curacao or Triple Sec can be substituted for the Blue Curacao, though you'll
lose the colorful effect.
