1 1/2    oz.        Irish Whiskey

1 1/2    oz.        Sweet Vermouth

1          dash     Bitters

 

Stir with ice, and strain into a chilled martini glass.  Add the bitters and serve.

 

 

Paint Thinner

Category: Hot Drinks

 

1 1/2    oz.        Dark Rum

1 1/2    oz.        Irish Cream

                        Coffee (to fill)

 

Pour the liquors into an Irish coffee mug, then add coffee to fill.

 

Tips:  Like any coffee drink, feel free to top off this apres-ski favorite with whipped cream and nuts or a cherry, if desired.

 

 

Palmer

1 1/2    oz.        Bourbon

1          dash     Lemon Juice

1          dash     Bitters

                        Lemon Twist

 

Pour into an ice-filled rocks glass and stir.  Garnish with the lemon twist, and serve.

 

 

Park Avenue

1 1/2    oz.        Gin

1/2       oz.        Sweet Vermouth

1          oz.        Pineapple Juice

1          dash     Triple Sec

 

A classy drink for "ladies who lunch" -- or anyone who's simply looking for another gin variation.  Simply shake or blend with ice, and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

 

 

Peach Daiquiri

Category: Daiquiris

 

1 1/2    oz.        White Rum

1/4       oz.        Lime Juice

1/4       oz.        Sugar Syrup

1/2                   Ripe Peach (peeled and

                             roughly cut)

 

Blend until the peach is completely pureed, then pour into a cocktail glass or champagne flute.

 

Variations:  Add 1/2 cup crushed ice to the blender to create a frozen drink.  Or try adding 1/2 oz. peach brandy or peach schnapps, for added punch.

 

 

Pimm's Cup

Category: Coolers

 

1 1/2    oz.        Pimm's No. 1

                        Lemon Slice

                        7-Up (to fill)

                        Cucumber Slice

 

Fill a highball glass half full of ice, and pour in the Pimm's.  Add the lemon slice, fill with 7-Up, garnish with the cucumber slice, and serve.

 

 

Pina Colada

Category: Tropical Drinks

 

2          oz.        White Rum

2          oz.        Pineapple Juice

1          oz.        Coconut Cream

1/2       oz.        Half & Half

                        Pineapple Wedge

                        Maraschino Cherry

 

Shake or blend with ice, and pour into a chilled goblet or highball glass.  Stick the pineapple wedge and cherry together on a toothpick, and use to garnish the drink, before serving.

 

Variations:  If you're using a blender to mix, try adding 1/4 cup of fresh or canned pineapple and 3 oz. crushed ice.  Blend well to produce a milkshake-like drink.  Try substituting dark rum for some or all of the white rum called for above; adjust the amount of cream, if necessary.

 

Trivia:  Dieters beware:  Good-quality coconut cream is almost 40% fat.

 

 

Pink Lady

1 1/2    oz.        Gin

3/4       oz.        Grenadine

2          oz.        Half & Half

 

Shake or blend with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

 

 

Pink Lemonade

Category: Novelty Drinks

 

1 1/2    oz.        Vodka

1          oz.        Cranberry Juice

2          oz.        Sour Mix

                        7-Up (to fill)

                        Lemon Slice

 

Shake or blend everything but the 7-Up with ice.  Strain into an ice-filled highball glass and top with 7-Up.  Garnish with the lemon slice before serving.

 

Variations:  Substitute a generous splash of grenadine for the cranberry juice, for a sweeter drink.

 

 

Pink Panther

Category: Cream Drinks

 

1 1/2    oz.        Gin

1/2       oz.        Dry Vermouth

1/4       oz.        Creme de Cassis

3/4       oz.        Orange Juice

3/4       oz.        Half & Half

                        Maraschino Cherry

 

Shake or blend with ice, and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.  Garnish with the cherry and serve.

 

Variations:  A healthy dash of grenadine can be substituted for the creme de cassis.

 

 

Pippi Longstocking

Category: Non-alcoholic Drinks

 

3          oz.        Apple Juice

1          tsp.       Lemon Juice

1          tsp.       Grenadine

                        Ginger Ale (to fill)

                        Maraschino Cherry

 

Shake the apple juice, lemon juice and grenadine with ice, and strain into a champagne flute.  Top off with the ginger ale, and garnish with the cherry before serving.

 

 

Pirate

3          oz.        Dark Rum

1 1/2    oz.        Sweet Vermouth

1          dash     Bitters

                        Maraschino Cherry

 

Pour the ingredients into an ice-filled mixing glass and stir until well chilled.  Strain into a chilled highball glass, add the cherry, and serve.

 

 

Planter's Punch (Shortcut Version)

Category: Tropical Drinks

 

1 1/2    oz.        Dark Rum

1/4       oz.        Lime Juice

                        Tropical Fruit Juice (to fill)

                        Pineapple or Lime Slice

                        Maraschino Cherry

 

Stick the lime and cherry together with a toothpick.  Pour the rum and lime juice into an ice-filled highball glass and stir.  Top off with the juice, garnish with the fruit, and serve.

 

Tips:  This drink is particularly tasty made with one of the new tropical fruit blends.  Add a dash of triple sec, maraschino, or fruit liqueur, for added punch.

 

 

Presbyterian

Category: Coolers

 

2          oz.        Whiskey

                        Club Soda

                        Ginger Ale

 

Pour the whiskey into an ice-filled highball glass.  Top off with equal portions of soda and ginger ale and serve.

 

Variations:  Substitute bourbon for the whiskey to pour a Kentucky Presbyterian.

 

 

Presidente

1 1/2    oz.        White Rum

1/2       oz.        Dry Vermouth

1/4       oz.        Triple Sec

1          dash     Grenadine

                        Lemon Slice

 

Shake or blend together with ice, and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.  Garnish with the lemon before serving.

 

Variations:  For an even more colorful drink, eliminate the grenadine and use Blue Curacao.  Feel free to experiment with Sweet Vermouth (or a combination of sweet and dry).

 

Trivia:  This drink was very popular in 1950's Havana, and was named after Cuban president General Menocal, whose love of cocktails was the stuff of legend.
