1          oz.        Triple Sec

 

Pour the liqueurs one by one into a small glass in the indicated order, being careful to maintain the separate layers.

 

Tips:  Chilling the liqueurs is a nice -- tasty! -- touch.

 

 

Bacardi Cocktail

1 1/2    oz.        Rum (White or Gold)

1/2       oz.        Lime Juice

2-3       dashes  Grenadine

 

Shake with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

 

Tips:  Too tart?  Use additional grenadine or sugar syrup as a sweetener.  Or try mixing a regular Daiquiri, instead.

 

 

Bahama Mama

1 1/2    oz.        Dark Rum

1 1/2    oz.        Golden Rum

1 1/2    oz.        White Rum

2          oz.        Pineapple Juice

2          oz.        Orange Juice

2          oz.        Sour Mix

2          dashes  Grenadine

                        Orange Slice

                        Maraschino Cherry

 

Sprinkle the grenadine into the bottom of a large glass, such as a tall collins glass, a hurricane glass, or a brandy snifter.  Shake together the remaining ingredients, and strain into the prepared glass.  Spear the orange slice and maraschino cherry together on a toothpick, and use to garnish the drink before serving.

 

 

Bali Hai

1 1/2    oz.        White Rum

2          oz.        Rose's Lime Juice

1/2       oz.        Grenadine

3/4       oz.        Amaretto

                        Champagne (to fill)

 

Pour the rum, lime, grenadine and Amaretto into an ice-filled glass and stir.  Top off with champagne and serve.

 

Variations:  Some bartenders prefer to use orgeat syrup (almond flavored syrup) instead of Amaretto.  If you do, reduce the amount to 1/4 ounce.

 

 

Banana Frozen Daiquiri

Category: Daiquiri Variations

 

1 1/2    oz.        White Rum

1          oz.        Banana Liqueur

1/2       oz.        Half & Half

1/2       oz.        Lime Juice

1/4                   Banana (roughly sliced)

                        Lime Slice

                        Maraschino Cherry

 

Stick the lime slice and cherry together with a toothpick.  Put 1/2 cup crushed ice in blender, then add the remaining ingredients and puree at low speed until smooth.  Pour into a chilled champagne or cocktail glass, garnish with the fruit and serve.

 

Tips:  Add a little sugar syrup or honey to the recipe, if you find that your drink needs extra sweetening.  If you don't have any banana liqueur, experiment with your favorite nut liqueur instead.  Or leave out the liqueur altogether, and increase the amount of rum to 2 oz.

 

 

Barbotage de Champagne

1          dash     Bitters

1          tsp.       Sugar Syrup

1          tsp.       Lemon Juice

                        Champagne (to fill)

                        Orange Twist or Slice

 

Fill a tumbler half full of cracked ice.  Add the bitters, syrup and lemon juice and stir.  Fill with the iced champagne, stir lightly and top with the orange, then serve immediately.

 

 

Barking Dog

1 1/2    oz.        Gin

1 1/2    oz.        Dry Vermouth

1 1/2    oz.        Sweet Vermouth

2          dashes  Bitters

                        Maraschino Cherry

 

Stir with ice, and strain into a chilled martini glass.  Add the cherry and serve.

 

 

Barnum & Bailey

1          oz.        Irish Cream

1/4       oz.        Gin

1          splash   Apricot Brandy

                        Maraschino Cherry

 

Shake with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.  Garnish with the cherry and serve.

 

 

Basic Juice Cocktail

1 1/2    oz.        Liquor

                        Juice (to fill)

                        Fresh Fruit

 

Pour the liquor into an ice-filled highball, hurricane or cocktail glass and fill with juice.  Garnish with fresh fruit, if desired.

 

Tips:  A touch of liqueur can add taste and excitement to a basic fruit drink.  So don't hesitate to try adding a dash of triple sec, cognac, Galliano, maraschino -- or most anything you have on hand -- to your favorite juice concoction.

 

 

Basic Soda Cocktail

1 1/2    oz.        Liquor

3          oz.        Soda Drink (Cola, Ginger Ale,

                              Tonic Water, etc.)

                        Fresh Fruit

 

Pour into an ice-filled highball glass and serve.  Garnish with fruit, if desired.

 

 

Basic Sour Cocktail

1 1/2    oz.        Liquor

3          oz.        Sour Mix

                        Maraschino Cherry

 

Shake with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.  Garnish with the cherry and serve.

 

 

Bellini

Category: Champagne Drinks

 

3          oz.        Champagne or Asti Spumante

3          oz.        Peach Juice

 

Pour into a champagne glass or flute and stir gently to mix.

 

Tips:  An authentic Bellini, as originated at Harry's Bar in Venice, is always made with the freshly pureed juice of white peaches.

 

 

Bentley

1 1/2    oz.        Calvados or Apple Brandy

1 1/2    oz.        Dubonnet

 

Stir with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass before serving.

 

 

Bermuda Highball

1 1/2    oz.        Dry Gin

1 1/2    oz.        Brandy

3/4       oz.        Dry Vermouth

                        Club Soda (to fill)

 

Fill a highball glass half full of ice, and pour in the liquors.  Top with the soda water and garnish with the lemon before serving.

 

Tips:  Topping this drink with a twist or slice of lemon is a nice added touch.

 

 

Between the Sheets

3/4       oz.        White Rum

3/4       oz.        Brandy

3/4       oz.        Triple Sec

3/4       oz.        Sour Mix

 

Shake or blend with ice, and strain into an ice-filled rocks glass.

 

Variations:  Lime or lemon juice may be substituted for the sour mix, and dark rum for light, in this classic rum drink.  The Park Avenue is a similar concoction using gin instead of rum.

 

 

Bijou

1 1/2    oz.        Gin

1 1/2    oz.        Green Chartreuse

1 1/2    oz.        Sweet Vermouth

1          dash     Orange Bitters

                        Lemon Twist or Slice

 

Stir with ice, and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.  Garnish with the lemon before serving.

 

Tip:  There's really no substitute for the light taste and unique color of chartreuse, so plan on buying some -- or using up that old bottle you've had around -- if you'd like to try this drink.

 

 

Black Devil

Category: Martini Variations

 

1 3/4    oz.        White Rum

3/4       oz.        Dry Vermouth

 

Shake together with ice, and strain into a chilled martini glass.  Garnish with a green or black olive and serve.

 

Tips:  Like any member of the martini family, this drink is open to interpretation with white or dark rum, dry or sweet vermouth -- and any of your favorite other add-ons.  If you enjoy this drink, try the Presidente.

 

 

Black Russian

1 1/2    oz.        Vodka

3/4       oz.        Coffee Liqueur

 

Fill an old-fashioned glass with ice.  Pour in the vodka and liqueur, stir quickly, and serve.

 

Trivia:  This drink was created by an inventive Belgian bartender who also sold scarves featuring both his profile and the recipe for this now-classic drink.

 

 

Black Widow

1          oz.        Dark Rum

3/4       oz.        Southern Comfort

1/4       oz.        Lime Juice

 

Shake or blend together with ice, and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

 

Tips:  For a sweeter drink, add a splash of sugar syrup or substitute Rose's Lime Juice for fresh.

 

 

Blinker

1 1/2    oz.        Whiskey

2          oz.        Grapefruit Juice

3/4       oz.        Grenadine

 

Shake with ice, and strain into an ice-filled highball glass before serving.

 

 

Bloody Mary

2          oz.        Vodka

4          oz.        Tomato Juice

1          tsp.       Lemon Juice

1/3       tsp.       Worcestershire Sauce

3          dashes  Tabasco Sauce

1          pinch    White Pepper

1          pinch    Celery Salt

                        Celery Stalk

 

Shake or blend with ice, and pour into an oversized glass.  Garnish with the celery stalk, and add additional ice cubes, if necessary, before serving.

 

Variations:  Almost every bartender has his or her own variation on this Sunday morning classic.  Ideas include:  adding a dab of horseradish, fresh or dried dill; substituting a pickled green bean for the celery stalk, using V-8 juice instead of plain tomato juice, or substituting lime for the lemon.  Feel free to experiment and create a classic of your own!

 

Trivia:  According to legend, this drink was invented in the 1920's to provide respite for hard-drinking writers who frequented Harry's Bar in Paris.

 

 

Blue Hawaiian

Category: Tropical Drinks

 

1          oz.        White Rum

1          oz.        Blue Curacao

2          oz.        Pineapple Juice

1          oz.        Coconut Cream

                        Orange Slice

                        Maraschino Cherry

 

Blend the ingredients with ice on low speed, until smooth.  Pour into a chilled brandy snifter and garnish with the cherry and orange slice.

 

 

Blue Margarita

Category: Margarita Variations

 

2          oz.        Tequila

3/4       oz.        Blue Curacao

3          oz.        Sour Mix

2                      Lime Wedges

                        Salt (for glass rim)

 

(Optional) To salt the glass, pour salt onto a flat plate to create a pool wider than the mouth of your glass.  Then rub a lime wedge along the rim of the chilled glass to wet it, before pressing into the bed of salt.

 

To mix the drink, shake the tequila, blue curacao and sour mix together with ice, and strain into the glass.  Garnish with the remaining lime before serving.

 

Variations:  Like the basic Margarita, this drink can be served with or without salt, and be blended or poured over ice.  You can also try substituting lemon juice for up to 1 oz. of the sour mix.  Pick your favorite and go with it!

 

 

Boilermaker

1 1/2    oz.        Whiskey

                        Beer (to fill)

 

Pour the whiskey into a chilled mug.  Fill with beer, put on the shirt of your favorite football team, and serve.

 

Variations:  Drink the whiskey as a shot, and use the beer as a chaser.

 

 

Bolero

Category: Daiquiri Variations

 

3          oz.        Dark Rum

3          oz.        Cognac

3/4       oz.        Sugar Syrup

1 1/2    oz.        Lime Juice

1          tsp.       Orange Juice

 

Shake or blend with crushed ice.  Then put on your favorite Ravel CD, and pour into a highball glass or large champagne glass before serving.

 

 

Bon Appetit

1 1/2    oz.        Dry Gin

1 1/2    oz.        Dubonnet

1 1/2    oz.        Orange Juice

3          dashes  Bitters

 

Shake the ingredients together with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass before serving.

 

Tip:  Mixed in volume, this makes a tasty party punch.  (Float lemon slices on top, for added visual appeal.)

 

 

Bonnie Prince Charlie

1          oz.        Drambuie

1          oz.        Brandy

1          oz.        Lemon Juice

 

Shake the ingredients together with ice, strain into a chilled martini glass, and serve.

 

 

Brandy Daisy

1 1/2    oz.        Brandy

1/4       oz.        Lemon Juice

4          dashes  Grenadine

                        Club Soda (to fill)

                        Fresh Fruit Pieces

 

Fill a highball glass or tumbler with ice.  Pour in the liquids and stir.  Top with soda, and garnish with your selection of fresh fruits.

 

 

Brandy Sour

1 1/2    oz.        Brandy

3          oz.        Sour Mix

                        Maraschino Cherry

 

Shake with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.  Garnish with the cherry and serve.

 

 

Brass Monkey

3/4       oz.        White Rum

3/4       oz.        Brandy

                        Orange Juice (to fill)

 

Fill a rocks glass with ice, then add the rum and brandy.  Top off with orange juice and serve.

 

 

Brave Bull

1 1/2    oz.        Tequila

1          oz.        Coffee Liqueur

 

Pour into an ice-filled rocks glass and stir well.

 

Variations:  For added sin, top with a dollop of fresh whipped cream, as we have here.

 

 

Brooklyn
