Mai Tai

3/4 oz. Dark Rum
3/4 oz. White Rum
1/2 oz. Triple Sec
1/2 oz. Orgeat Syrup
1/2 oz. Sugar Syrup
1/4 oz. Lime Juice
Pineapple
Wedge
Maraschino
Cherry
Stick the fruit together with a toothpick. Then shake or blend all of the liquids with ice, and strain into
an ice-filled collins glass. Garnish
with the fruit and serve.
Variations: If you don't have orgeat
(almond) syrup on hand, try using Amaretto as a substitute. Or even easier, use Mai Tai mix.
Trivia: The Mai Tai was invented
at Trader Vic's in Oakland, California.
According to a book written by the bar's illustrious owner, Vic
Bergeron, the first person who happened to try the drink was a Tahitian woman
who went on to say "Mai tai -- roa ae", which means "Great
drink!"
Manhattan
Category: Manhattan Variations
1 1/2 oz. Whiskey or Rye
1/2 oz. Sweet Vermouth
1 dash Bitters
Maraschino Cherry
Stir the liquors together with ice, then strain into a chilled martini
glass. Add the dash of bitters and the
cherry, then serve immediately.
Variations: Use dry vermouth to
pour a Dry Manhattan, or equal parts dry and sweet vermouth for a Perfect

Trivia: There are many stories
about how the Manhattan originated, but our favorite has the drink invented by
Winston Churchill's mother, Jenny Jerome, while she was still a single woman
living in New York.
Margarita

1 1/2 oz. Tequila
3/4 oz. Triple Sec
1 1/2 oz. Sour Mix
Lemon Slice
Shake or blend with ice, then strain into a chilled champagne or
margarita glass. Garnish with the lemon
slice, and serve.
Tips: Salting your margarita
glass is optional. To do this, simply
rub a lime wedge along the edge and dip into a plateful of salt.
Variations: Blend your margarita
with fruit, such as fresh peach of strawberries, for a delightfully different

Martini

2 oz. Gin
1/2 oz. Dry Vermouth
Green Olive
Pour into an ice-filled mixing glass and stir until well chilled. Then strain into a martini glass (or
ice-filled rocks glass), garnish with the olive, and serve.
Tips: Like all martini versions,
simply increase the proportion of gin to vermouth to produce a drier drink.
Mary Pickford
1 1/2 oz. White Rum
2 oz. Pineapple Juice
2 dashes Grenadine

Stick the fruit together with a toothpick and pour the grenadine into a
chilled cocktail glass. Then shake the
remaining ingredients with ice before adding to the grenadine, pouring
carefully down the side of the glass to maintain the separate red layer. Garnish with the fruit and serve.
Trivia: As pretty as the star
who became known as "America's Sweetheart", this drink originated in
1920's Havana, where drinks named after movie personalities were a popular
phenomenon.
Master of the Hounds

3/4 oz. Cherry Brandy
1 dash Bitters

Cherry
Pour into an ice-filled rocks glass and stir to chill. Add the cherry and serve.
Matador
1 1/2 oz. Tequila
3 oz. Pineapple Juice
3/4 oz. Lime Juice

Melrose Place

Merry Widow

Mexican Devil

Fill a highball glass half full with ice. Add the tequila, cassis and lime, and stir. Fill with ginger ale and serve.
Tips: This tasty drink is a good
refreshing summer alternative to margaritas.
Midori Sour

2 oz. Melon Liqueur (such as Midori)
1 oz. White Rum
1 oz. Sour Mix
Shake or blend with ice, and strain into a chilled sour glass or
cocktail glass before serving.
Mimosa
Category: Champagne Drinks
3 oz. Orange Juice
Champagne
(to fill)
1 dash Triple Sec
Pour the orange juice into a chilled champagne glass and top off with
champagne. Add a dash of triple sec for
added flavor, and serve.
Tips: Check out the recipe for a
Virgin Mimosa, for a non-alcoholic alternative. Crushed ice can be a nice addition, too -- especially if you're
serving the drinks outdoors.
Mint Julep

2 oz. Bourbon
3/4 oz. Lemon Juice
3/4 oz. Sugar Syrup
6 Mint Leaves
Lemon Slice
or Mint Sprig
Place the mint leaves in a highball glass, add the syrup, and
"muddle" together using the back of a spoon. Pour in the bourbon and lemon juice, stir,
add ice, and serve. Garnish with a
lemon slice or mint sprig.
Trivia: This is the traditional
drink that's enjoyed during the running of the Kentucky Derby on the first Saturday
of each May.
Moscow Mule

1 1/2 oz. Vodka
3/4 oz. Lime Juice
Ginger Ale
(to fill)
Lime Slice
Fill a highball glass with ice and pour in the vodka and lime
juice. Top off with ginger ale, garnish
with the lime slice, and serve.
Variations: Leave out the lime
and you've got a Copperhead.
