Daiquiri

1 1/2 oz. White Rum

3/4 oz. Lime Juice or Sour Mix

1 tsp. Sugar

Lime Slice

Shake the rum, lime juice and sugar together with ice, until the sugar is completely dissolved. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass, and garnish with the lime slice.

1 1/2 oz. Dark Rum

1 1/2 oz. Dry Vermouth

2 dashes Grenadine

1 oz. Lime Juice

Shake with ice, and strain into a chilled cocktail or martini glass before serving.

Death in the Afternoon

1 1/2 oz. Pernod

Champagne

Pour the Pernod into a chilled champagne glass. Top off with champagne and serve.

Tips: Galliano, Sambuca, or any other anisette-flavored drink can easily be substituted for the Pernod.

1 1/2 oz. Gin

1/2 oz. Curacao

1/4 oz. Sweet Vermouth

2 oz. Pineapple Juice

Pineapple Slice

Maraschino Cherry

Stick the fruit together with a toothpick. Then shake or blend the liquids with ice, and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with the fruit, and prepare to imagine you're looking out over the white sands of Waikiki!

Variations: Try substituting any variety of fortified wines or liqueurs for the curacao/vermouth combination suggested here.

3 oz. Dry Vermouth

1 1/2 oz. Sweet Vermouth

Lemon Twist

Maraschino Cherry

Pour the vermouths into a mixing glass, and strain into a chilled cocktail or martini glass. Twist the peel into the drink and add the cherry before serving.

Dirty Mother

1 1/2 oz. Coffee Liqueur

1 1/2 oz. Brandy

Pour into an ice-filled rocks glass and serve.

Variations: Replace 1 oz. of the coffee liqueur with cream to pour a Dirty White Mother. (Who comes up with these names?)

Dixie Cocktail

1 1/2 oz. Gin

3/4 oz. Dry Vermouth

3/4 oz. Pernod

1/2 oz. Orange Juice

Maraschino Cherry

Shake together with ice, and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with the cherry and serve.

1 1/2 oz. Dry Vermouth

Orange Twist or Slice

Stir with ice and strain into a chilled martini glass. Twist the orange over the top and use to garnish the drink, before serving.

Tips: A purist would insist that this, like any martini, be mixed with English gin.
